Abstract
Jo Beall will examine the key trends, challenges and opportunities currently faced by international higher education (IHE). Emphasising the importance of avoiding the worst excesses of isolationism, expansionism and rebellion, she will not only explore IHE in terms of both markets and provision, but also take a closer look at some of the political dynamics affecting it in various parts of the world today.

Jo is Director Education and Society at the British Council and a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town. She serves on a number of panels including the British Academy's South Asia Area panel and the council of the Overseas Development Institute.
