Metamorphic: 21st Century Poets respond to Ovid

Nessa O’Mahony, Associate Lecturer at The Open University (OU) is co-editor of a new international poetry anthology Metamorphic: 21st Century Poets respond to Ovid. The anthology features new work by 100 poets from Ireland, including four OU staff members from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Siobhan Campbell, Jane Yeh, Anne Caldwell and Csilla Toldy.

Metamorphic will be launched on Saturday 18th November, from 7-8pm in the Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast. The Dublin launch takes place on Wednesday 29th November from 7-8.30pm in Poetry Ireland.

In AD 17, Publius Ovidius Naso, the Roman poet Ovid, died in exile in the Black Sea port of Tomis (now Constanta in Romania). Two thousand years later, editors and poets Nessa O’Mahony and Paul Munden have invited poets to respond to his most celebrated work, Metamorphoses, with poems that explore the many contemporary resonances in that seminal work. The anthology, Metamorphic: 21st century poets respond to Ovid, will be published in November 2017 by Recent Work Press, in association with the International Poetry Studies Institute at the University of Canberra.
