The Open University in Ireland supports Book Week NI

The Open University in Ireland (OUiI) was delighted to partner with Libraries NI and BBC NI for Book Week NI 2022.

Running from 17-23 October, the programme included activities and events across the library network in Northern Ireland. The OUiI contributed three events to the line-up thanks to the support of academics and alumni.  

Creative writing tutor Csilla Toldy held a creative writing workshop ‘My Past and My Writing’ at Warrenpoint Library; former student and award-winning author and screenwriter Leesa Harker was in conversation with Cate Conway in Belfast Central Library and Professor Teresa Cremin addressed an audience of over 300 people with her online talk ‘Reading: A Child’s Superpower’.

Nation Director John D’Arcy also participated in the event as a Book Week Ambassador, sharing his top reads and library experiences on social media.

Speaking about the event John said: “Book Week NI celebrates the joy that reading, and libraries can provide. It’s also a great example of partnership working between organisations at the heart of community life - the BBC, Libraries NI and The Open University.

“We were delighted to have a platform for our academics to share their expertise in the field of creative writing and reading, and for one of our inspirational students, Leesa Harker, to share how studying with the OU changed her life, opening doors she never thought possible. We look forward to developing the partnership next year and continuing the conversations about the power of reading and writing.”
