Join OU Trips for a Autumn visit to Iceland West and Westfjords

Our fully guided tour will take us around the West of Iceland and up to the least inhabitied are of the Westfjords taking in the highlights of the Icelandic scenery and culture as always.
NOTE: We cannot promise the Northern Lights, but September is definitely possible.
Day 1: Travelling from OU to London Heathrow via coach, and flying with Icelandair into Keflavik and heading to top of the Snaefellsnes peninsula by private coach
After arriving at Keflavik we will travel North en route to the Snaefellsnes pennisula and the lovely town of Stykkishólmur.

Staying for 2 nights at Fosshotel Stykkishólmur (half board basis - 3 course dinner) Located in the charming town of Stykkishólmur on the beautiful Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Fosshotel Stykkishólmur offers simply furnished and comfortable en suite rooms and a restaurant with spectacular views of Breiðafjörður Bay. There are plenty of ways to explore this picturesque area; hiking routes across beaches and in the mountains; guided tours around the town; boat trips into the fjord. A golf course and swimming pool are nearby.
Day 2: Snaefellsnes Peninsula
A full day to explore the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Highlights today include:
• Kirkjufell Mountain
• Kirkjufellfoss waterfall
• Saxholl Crater - watch sunrise with your morning coffee
• Djupallonssandur Black Sand Beaches
• Possible whale watching from Olafsvik
• Ytri Tunga (great place to see seals)
• Arnarstapi Rock Formations
Day 3: Depart Snaefellsnes to Patreksfjordur,Westfjords. (Around 5 hours of travelling), Nearby are the birding cliffs of Latrabjarg and Raudassandur, a stunning red sand beach.
Staying 1 night Fosshotel Westfjords - Patreksfjörður (half board basis - 3 course dinner)

Fosshotel Westfjords is located in the small fishing village of Patreksfjörður, in the north west of Iceland. All rooms have an en suite bathroom, Wi-Fi, flatscreen tv, phone and offer views over the fjord or the mountains. The hotel has a restaurant and bar. Decor is contemporary and Scandinavian in style.
Day 4: Head to the northern part of the Westfjords and the “largest” town in the area. En route, include a stop at Dynjandi waterfalls, one of the main stopping points in the westfjords.

Staying at the Hotel Horn for 2 nights - Isafjördur (bed and breakfast only)

The modern Hotel Horn is in the heart of the small town of Ísafjörður. Featuring bright rooms with wooden floors, private bathrooms, flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi access, the hotel is a goodbase for active adventures and wildlife excursions in Hornstrandir or Vigur island.
Day 5: Exploring Isafjordur - potential kayak trip and visit to the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve with the possibility of seeing artic foxes.
Day 6: Depart Isafjordur for Husafell
A travel day heading down to Husafel, a scenic drive with lots of stopping opportunities.
Staying 2 nights at the Hotel Húsafell (half board - 3 course dinner)

This contemporary hotel offers sleek and modern rooms set in a peaceful location in the heart of the Icelandic countryside. All rooms come with private facilities, cable tv, free Wi-Fi and hair dryers. The hotel also has its own in-house restaurant. The swimming pool, hot pools and sauna and steam room complex are part of the hotel.
Day 7: Must-see sites close to Hotel Husafell include the waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafossar, the Canyon baths, as well as Europe’s most powerful hotspring Deildartunguhver. We will look at a tour to the Vidgelmir lava tube cave or take a trip inside Langjokull Ice Caves

Day 8: Return toward the airport with a stop off at Hvammsvík Natural Hot Springs en route.
