Purity and Danger

Thomas Hylland Eriksen, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Oslo talks to Professor Marie Gillespie from The Open University and reflects on what he learned from the exhibition Unlocked Archive. He argues that it offers an alternative prism – a perspective from the margins of societies, through which to view the pandemic and, with the help of some anthropological thinking, ideas about purity and danger for example, it can help us make sense of life under Covid.
