Overview

This session will guide you through finding and evaluating the external scholarship of teaching and learning literature. The session will also discuss finding appropriate journals in which to publish scholarship. Face-to-face attendees are asked to bring a tablet, laptop or other web-enabled device to participate in any interactive activities.

Learning objectives

  • Identify different sources of external scholarship literature in order to evaluate their usefulness.
  • Compare and contrast advanced search techniques in order to evaluate their usefulness.
  • Apply framework in order to evaluate scholarship literature.
  • Analyse issues regarding where to publish scholarship in order to inform publishing choices.

About the facilitator

David Jenkins is a Research Support Librarian and part of the Library Research Support team. He delivers training on topics such as advanced literature searching, quantitative research indicators (bibliometrics/citation-based metrics/altmetrics) and academic social networking/author profile systems (e.g. Researchgate, Academia, Mendeley). David works closely with research students to understand their research support needs and to support training and engagement. He co-administers the UKRI/RCUK Block Grant, and can advise on accessing the grant for payment of APCs for open access publications.
