The Open University in Scotland is proud to host Gaelic Work Songs at the Being Human Festival 2024. Join this hands-on workshop and learn about the the final stage of preparing a length of Scottish tweed.
Please note this event is now sold-out.
Members of Sgioba Luaidh Inbhirchluaidh (Inverclyde Waulking Group) will explain the process and teach some traditional Gaelic waulking songs, sung by the (mostly) women of the Outer Hebrides to accompany their work during the dark winter months.
No singing experience or knowledge of Gaelic required. You can choose to join us at the table as we work the sample of dry cloth, or sit back and listen. Tea, coffee, and traditional cake provided. Suitable for ages 15+.
Tickets are free and can be booked via the Being Human Festival events page or directly on Eventbrite.
The Being Human Festival is led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. For further information, please see beinghumanfestival.org.
