The Open University is proud to sponsor Living on the Moon!, hosted by Professor Mahesh Anand, at the Orkney International Science Festival 2024.
It’s 55 years since Neil Armstrong set foot on the Moon, in what seemed a first step for humans to explore the Solar System.
But few have followed – the last was in 1972 – and the dreams have faded. But now governments and companies are talking of a return to the Moon and it’s being seen as a technology testbed for exploring Mars and the asteroids, says Prof. Mahesh Anand of The Open University. His work in planetary science has included Moon rocks and martian meteorites, and he is currently collaborating with international researchers to follow up on the recent discovery of water on the Moon.
Tickets available via the Orkney Science Festival website. OU students, graduates and staff are eligible for a 40% discount on the ticket price, by entering the discount code OUOISF40. (Event time has moved from 11:30-12:30 to 12:00-13:00).
There is a wide range of free learning about planetary and space sciences on the OU’s free learning site OpenLearn, including a collection of courses, articles, videos, audios and interactive features on Moons.
