In a national survey published today, The Open University (OU) has been ranked joint third with Glasgow University for overall student satisfaction in Scotland.

The 2017 National Student Survey (NSS) compares 16 universities across Scotland and the rating of 89% put The OU just behind St Andrew’s and Dundee Universities and ahead of Aberdeen and Strathclyde.

The OU is the largest university in the UK and operates across Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

A high percentage of students cast their votes, with 59% of all students at The OU in Scotland taking part in the survey.

Many of our students face significant barriers to gaining degree-level qualifications so supporting them on their journey is really important to us.

“We have 15,000 students in Scotland, from Shetland to Stranraer, so we are delighted that so many of them expressed their satisfaction in this way. Many of our students face significant barriers to gaining degree-level qualifications so supporting them on their journey is really important to us.” Said, Susan Stewart, Director of The Open University in Scotland

Over half of all part time undergraduates in the whole of Scotland are OU students with around 20% of these declaring a disability, 74% working alongside their studies and 17% living in the most disadvantaged areas.

“The OU was founded on principles of widening access to higher education and you don’t even need formal qualifications to start studying with us. This really encourages students from all backgrounds. That such a diverse group of students are happy with us as an institution is great news,” she added.
