On 23rd January 2025, Kevin Collins convened a stakeholder workshop near Canterbury on local understanding of the River Nailbourne as part of his Chalk Bournes project in conjunction with the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology. Chalk rivers are very rare habitats globally and over 80% occur in the UK. Chalk Bournes are the parts of chalk rivers that only flow at certain times of the year. This was the fifth stakeholder event in this research which aims to develop a shared understanding of the hydrological and morphological science of intermittent chalk streams. The insights from the workshop help to identify short and long term changes in chalk rivers and opportunities for innovative monitoring using drones and cross-check models developed using observed and modelled data.
