Mr Sarel Marais

Staff Tutor at the Open University since 2022, along with Associate Lecturer at the School of Engineering and Innovation within the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics since 2020. 

I worked as an industrial engineer in projects, design and management since completing my engineering degree in 1990. These industries include the sectors of steel, ceramic tiles, food and aluminium extrusion. I have been involved in international projects, including countries like Holland, Italy, China and Turkey. I am passionate about employer-centred education.

A significant proportion of my experience is interdisciplinary in nature, including elements of mechanical, electrical, control, materials, environmental and process engineering.
