Mr Sarel Marais

I have been serving as a Staff Tutor at the Open University since 2022 and as an Associate Lecturer at the School of Engineering and Innovation within the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics since 2020.

My career as an engineer began in 1990 after completing my engineering degree, during which I gained extensive experience in project management, design, and operations. I have worked across diverse industries, including steel, ceramic tiles, food production, and aluminium extrusion.

My professional journey includes participation in international projects in countries such as the Netherlands, Italy, China, and more recently, Turkey. I am deeply passionate about fostering the growth and development of the next generation of engineers.

A substantial portion of my expertise is interdisciplinary, encompassing mechanical, electrical, control, materials, environmental, and process engineering domains.
