Voices from the Global South: confronting climate coloniality

Professor Farhana Sultana (Syracuse University) delivered a keynote to launch the ‘Voices from the Global South’ project, a collaboration between the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) (with the Institute of British Geographers), the International Geographical Union and The Open University. It was held at the RGS, London in June 2024. In her keynote Professor Sultana engages diverse perspectives on the climate crisis, emphasising the significance of incorporating insights from academic, policy, and indigenous advocacy groups in confronting ongoing climate coloniality.

New Teaching Materials for Key Stage 3 on the Climate Crisis Now Available

As part of the ESRC IAA grant, Professor Parvati Raghuram (Open University), Dr. Melis Cin (Lancaster University), and Dr. Manu Lekunze (University of Aberdeen), in collaboration with Chris Winter (Geography Association) and Dan Whittall (Geography Association), have developed new teaching materials for Key Stage 3 (ages 11–14) to address the climate crisis through a decolonial lens, focusing on a case study from Cameroon.

Applications are invited for an Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC DTP-funded Collaborative Doctoral Award at The Open University, in partnership with the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG).
