Open geographies

Human Geography Today cover

We have a longstanding history of collective geographical publications at the Open University, such as Fundamentals in Human GeographyGeography Matters! and Human Geography Today.

At the heart of all these interventions was a commitment to thinking together in attempt to change the shape of the discipline by focusing on the debates and issues within particular conjunctures.

We are currently in the process of producing a new collective book project, entitled Open Geographies which seeks to continue to emphasise the need to think collectively to better interpret and intervene in a changing world.

Yet, today our overiding concern is with thinking spatially to better interpret the complex character of the current moment and to explore the possibilities for intervening in the shifting relationships between the conceptual, political, practical and pedagogical.

As the project develops we will provide ongoing updates and to reflect on the collective process of thinking together in the increasingly individualised worlds of academia and to help think openly about the politics of knowledge production in the making of a collective project such as Open Geographies.
