Before you start

Receive your Welcome pack

Prior to starting your new role you will be sent a Welcome pack - this will contain lots of useful information about the University and the unit you will be joining but most importantly it will include a timetable that will outline the activities that are planned for your first few weeks of your new role.

Obtaining your Open University ID card

It is University policy for all staff, contractors, students and visitors to carry their Open University card when on University premises. The ID card holds basic information including a photographic image.  The Open University card is a multipurpose card which staff, contractors, research students and some visitors use while working for or on behalf of, or studying at, the University.

You will be asked to provide a picture via email that will be used in the production of the card. The image needs to be a clear colour photograph showing the head and shoulders of the individual. The face must also be clearly shown.

Your line manager will advise you of the process in your department to obtain your ID card.

Receive and set up IT equipment

If you are working remotely you will be sent your IT equipment and peripherals required for your role.  You should check that you are able to log on to University systems and have all necessary equipment prior to your start date so that any issues can be resolved swiftly. This will enable you to hit the ground running on your first day. It is important that you access and complete the IT security training prior to accessing any University systems.

If you have any issues you can contact IT on 01908 (6) 54321.
