Laura Dowie, Events and Degree Ceremonies Co-ordinator for The Open University has been included in the Northern Ireland 40 under 40 List which recognises talented individuals in business in Northern Ireland.
Now in its fourth year, the prestigious list celebrates people under the age of 40 who have been responsible for helping to advance a Northern Ireland business or organisation in a demonstrable way within the last 12 months. It is now open for people to vote in the People's Choice Award, where three people on the list will win this additional accolade.
Laura organises a range of events for The Open University in Ireland including two degree ceremonies in both Belfast and Dublin. Laura's enthusiasm and range of skills enable her to achieve many successful events.
Laura is also the founder and director of an initiative set up to improve a range of life assuring skills in young girls. Laura has collaborated with a range of organisations to deliver bespoke events for Little Women NI.
Laura is delighted to be included in the list and nominated for the award. She says: "I set up Little Women NI in 2016 with the aim of developing a range of life assuring skills in young girls aged between seven and eleven across Northern Ireland. Little Women NI focuses on developing core skills to include confidence, communication, leadership, creativity and teamwork, whilst challenging gender stereotypes and creating a future that is fair and accessible for all.
With most events being self-funded, I am delighted the work I do with the initiative is being recognised and with the support I have received from local businesses, parents and my peers."
