eSTEeM continues its seminar series with presentations from project teams. November's seminar will explore the methodology and findings of the following two eSTEeM projects.
In a distance-learning institution, feedback on marked assignments is a major teaching resource, but evidence suggests that not all students make the most effective use of this. Our project aimed to provide insight into students’ attitudes to and use of tutor comments on marked TMAs. We will discuss some of the findings from an anonymous questionnaire completed by students on several modules in maths and economics, and explain the outputs from the project in terms of recommendations to students and to markers.
*Please also see the PDF handout under 'Related resources' of student comments that the project team produced for the module websites.
In this presentation, we discuss the implementation and evaluation of our EAP across the curriculum pilot project. This on-going initiative involves the provision of subject-specific, individual EAP sessions to students across the Open University curriculum. Our presentation will describe the organisational and operational aspects of the pilot and its benefits and challenges as a model of EAP provision. It will then present the findings of eSTEeM-funded research conducted into the impact of the project on student motivation and success, drawing on mixed data sources.
This seminar is open to all OU staff. Please visit the registration form by Monday 14th November to book your place.
