27th April 2017
The 6th eSTEeM Annual Conference took place on the 25-26 April 2017. Titled STEM Futures: Supporting Students to Succeed and attended by over 120 delegates, the aim of the conference was to highlight the recent research supported by eSTEeM and reflect on the future of STEM-specific teaching and learning as we aim to maximise the success of students in achieving their objectives and aspirations.
Delegates were again invited to vote for the best poster and congratulations go to a team of staff and students from the School of Physical Sciences who won for their poster ‘The impact of scaffolding on Learning physics: is there a gender difference?’.
The work was led by Hillary Dawkins, an eSTEeM-funded visiting student from Canada, working in particular with Dr Holly Hedgeland and Professor Sally Jordan. Hillary has been visiting the OU for the last two months and has also submitted a paper on the work, which begins to identify some of the features in questions that lead to particular large attainment gaps between men and women.
