eSTEeM was once again well represented at this year’s Horizons in STEM HE Conference, which took place at Bristol University on the 26-27 June, with 16 projects presenting their Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) projects. Initiated by eSTEeM, the conference is an opportunity for STEM colleagues to share their insights into teaching innovation and pedagogy and develop connections across the STEM disciplines.

Delegates enjoyed two days of inspiring talks and a high quality, multi-disciplinary programme. Many congratulations to Hayley Ryder whose short oral won the Best Presentation for Day 2 ‘Mistakes included: supporting students by demonstrating that confusion really is the natural state of a mathematician beating off stiff competition from over 20 presentations, and a 2nd win in 2 years for eSTEeM projects!

The committee has grown to a consortium of fourteen UK HEIs who are working collaboratively to drive forward innovation and good practice within higher education. The committee is now planning to expand Horizons in STEM into a network, as well as an annual conference. For further information about the aims of the network, and details of how to become a member, please visit the Horizons in STEM Higher Education Network website. An online launch event for the network will take place on the 17th October 2024, 13:00-14:30 with a keynote talk from Jane Pritchard NTF, Head of Educational Development at the University of Oxford.

Next year’s event will be the 10cth anniversary of this rapidly expanding conference and will be held at Aston University. Further details will be announced in due course.
