The Mutual Impedance Probe (MIP) has two functions. The first of these is to measure the gas density of electrons, the temperature and the velocity of particles within the inner coma. This is accomplished by measuring the impedance between two dipoles. The second function of MIP is to monitor dust and gas activity in the nucleus and to make spectral measurements between the frequencies of 7 kHz and 3.5 MHz.
