The Plasma Interface Unit (PIU), built by Imperial College London, is the unit that acts as the interface between the five instruments of the RPC. The PIU is responsible for receiving all commands for, and transmitting all data from, the RPC instruments. It will also take power from the Rosetta spacecraft and convert and manage it in order to power each of the RPC experiments.

As a third function, the Plasma Interface Unit provides the data processing capability for the magnetometer experiment.

The PIU is integrated with the power supply and the electronics of three sensors into the RPC-0 box.
