The Open University is proud to sponsor Jenni Fagan: Writing as a Way of Being, in conversation with Caroline Sanderson, at the Edinburgh International Book Festival 2024.

When you think of Jenni Fagan, so much comes to mind: bestselling novelist, acclaimed poet, fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. She is also care experienced.

Her unforgettable memoir Ootlin tells of the young person who – by age 16 – had more than 27 placements within ‘the system’.

Fagan joins author and books journalist Caroline Sanderson to talk about how she “found her way to books and found in a world of words the only place I ever actually belonged”.

Tickets available via the Edinburgh Book Festival websiteBooking options include watching in-person or a 'pay what you can' option to watch online.

There is a range of study support and resources available for students who are care experienced. On the OU's free learning site OpenLearn, you can find a wide range of free learning resources about creative writing, including Writing what you know.
