League games and results

The OU team has played in the Bedford Touch Rugby League since 2005. We have grown from just a handful of players propping up the bottom of the table to a competitive squad of over 20 regular players. Notable campaigns include topping Division 4 in 2008, claiming the Division 2 Bowl in 2011 and winning the Championship (Division 2) in 2013.

Bedford Touch league games are played on Wednesday evenings (19:00 - 21:00) at Biddenham Upper School, near Bedford. The season is summer only and usually runs from May to July. If there are any changes Alan will send an e-mail out to all registered players confirming whether we are playing and start time, please make sure you are registered with Alan.

Despite our ever-improving league performances over the years we are still primarily a social team and players of all abilities will get to play in our competitive games. If you want to find out more, contact Alan Carter.

2013 League Results

OU Touch Team

The OU Touch Rugby Club are celebrating their most successful summer season so far in the 9 years they have been playing league touch rugby!

On Wednesday 10th July the OU team were crowned Bedford Touch Rugby Championship League winners. The OU team won the final play-off for top spot, beating their closest rivals by 6 tries to 2, having already secured top position in the league table the previous week.

Then on Thursday 11th July, the team also won all their games to finish second in the Milton Keynes Touch Rugby League, overtaking some other good teams in the process. Congratulations and thanks are due to everybody who played in both leagues.

2012 League Results

Well done to everyone who played throughout the 2012 season. No silverware for the OU this time but it was a hard fought and enjoyable season for all who took part.

2011 League results

The OU came SECOND in the Bedford Touch Rugby League Division 2 West!

This qualified us for the Bowl competition on the final day. In the semi-final we beat Swifts to progress to the 2nd Division Bowl Final where we beat Misfits 7-4.

Well done to everyone involved in another successful season.

2010 League Results

The team achieved our highest ever placing of 3rd in Division 3. Well done to everyone who played.

Player of the League goes to Sam Hammond for some great defensive play, running great lines and coming back after nearly being knocked out.

Barry Verdin (most games played and great playing improvement over last year);
Chris Pearce (best rookie);
James Barnett (great captaincy and scoring the most tries);
Alison Hunt (great defensive efforts);
Paul Gannaway (for refereeing for us and scoring all those tries).

2009 League Results

The OU finished at the lower end of Division 3 in 2009, the step up from Division 4 making for a much tougher competition than in previous years.

Despite often playing against rugby clubs in their off-season rather than other social sides, most games were very close and we scored and defended well throughout the season.

Well done to everyone who played, but special thanks to Carl Boardman (team captain), Dave Embury (vice-captain) and Alan Carter (team manager).

2008 League Results

The OU were proud champions of Division 4 of the 2008 Bedford Touch League!

A slightly shaky start to 2008 then led to a string of four wins and one draw for a strong and winning finish to the season. Medals were awarded at a special ceremony at Bedford Rugby Club at the end of the season (see photos section of this site).
