Introductory Astrobiology is a free online event for primarily STFC funded PhD students including Mars mission simulation, skills sessions, lectures, panel discussions and keynotes from an astronaut and ExoMars Instrument PI.
Introductory Astrobiology is being hosted by the Astrobiology Society of Great Britain, STFC and AstrobiologyOU
Because of COVID-19, this Summer School will be delivered via Microsoft Teams.
Introductory Astrobiology will provide students with an insight into all aspects of Astrobiology, from theoretical, laboratory and fieldwork methodologies, to mission operations for data gathering. Students will get to take part in a Mars mission simulation scenario, providing them with practical and realistic insight into operating a spacecraft on another planet – and the teamwork skills this requires. In addition, Introductory Astrobiology offers a wide range of topics directly related to the PhD journey and to skills beneficial to a researcher in the 21st century. These sessions include budgeting and CV writing, an in depth understanding of public engagement and support for how to deal with pressure. The outstanding line up of presenters ranges from experts in theoretical and applied astrobiology to a mission PI and even a NASA astronaut! Make sure to check out the programme for details.
