Ramla Khan, a PhD student in The Open University’s School of Environment, Earth and Ecosystem Sciences recently wrote for Climate Perspectives magazine.

In the article Ramla discusses her research ‘Investigating the effects of temperature extremes on urban trees’. Her work is part of The Open University's mission to deliver impact-driven research to ensure a sustainable planet.

In the article, Ramla explains the importance of urban trees and how urban designers need to think about the impact of climate change on native tree species. The article also encourages people to become citizen scientists using Treezilla to map local trees. Treezilla is an ambitions project, from The Open University, to map all of Britain’s trees and record vital data about tree disease and the environmental benefits that trees provide. It is a platform for a wide range of enquiry-led scientific investigations using real data from trees.
