An Access module is an ideal starting point if you need to develop your study skills and build your confidence.
An Access module provides the perfect introduction to studying with The Open University. If you’re new to university-level study, want to develop or refresh your study skills or increase your confidence about studying, then an Open University Access module might be the ideal starting point for you. Access modules are studied over a period of 30 weeks and during that time you should expect to spend approximately nine hours per week on your studies.
We have three Access modules for you to choose from:
This module is an ideal starting point if you are interested in the arts and languages. It explores a range of subjects, including art history, English literature, history, creative writing and modern languages.
This module is an ideal starting point if you have little or no previous knowledge of science, technology and mathematics, and would like to develop your knowledge, numeracy and study skills. The subjects included in this module are science, engineering and design, environment, mathematics and computing and IT.
Psychology, social science and wellbeing
This module allows you to develop both subject knowledge and general study skills. It provides an introduction to a wide range of subjects, including psychology, childhood and youth, early years, health and social wellbeing, sport, education, and social sciences.
This module lets you discover business and law, their big issues and influence on our daily lives, while developing and gaining confidence in key study skills.
As part of our widening work we run a number of outreach events with community partners across Wales to help you find out more about our Access modules. These events are free and you can either drop-in on the day or book in advance to see us for an informal chat about our courses.
For information on upcoming events in your area please check out our Facebook page.
How much you pay for an Access module depends on your financial circumstances. There is a range of payment options to make study more affordable, and you may even be able to study for free.
