In Wales we have a range of payment and financial support options to meet your individual needs and to help you meet your study goals – whether you’re studying a single module or working towards a qualification.

Financial support

Financial support is available for eligible part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students in Wales.

If you have a disability or specific learning difficulty, you may qualify for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs) to help with any related additional study costs. 

How can I pay for my studies?

Studying with The Open University in Wales is much more affordable and straightforward than you might think. Options include Part-Time Tuition Fee Loans (also known as student loans), Pay As You Go through an Open University student budget account, and employer sponsorship. You can also pay upfront with a debit or credit card.

Credit transfer

If you have previously studied elsewhere at higher education level, we may be able to award you credit transfer towards an OU qualification – reducing the number of modules you need to study. 

How much does it cost?

Fees are paid on a module-by-module basis. If you’re studying for a qualification, you won't have to pay the whole cost upfront. 

In Wales our fee for a 60 credit module is £1,312*. The number of credits in a qualification ranges from 120 for a certificate, to 360 for an honours degree. Most part-time students study 60 credits a year.
