Research into Practice Survey

Dr Nicky Miller would like to invite Members to take part in a short survey as part of her Research into Practice project. This is a force-wide survey that seeks to identify the enablers and barriers to research use within policing.

The Centre is recognised as a highly innovative and collaborative partnership between the Open University, with over 50 academics involved across all faculties, and 23 UK police agencies..  The aim of the Centre is to create, explore and use high quality knowledge to support evidence-based practice and to create better policing through education, research and knowledge exchange.  Research use is a core component of this approach.  Understanding how to effectively support and enable the use of research evidence is central to the continued success of the Centre. Nicky's research is aiming to identify the variety of individual and organisational factors that both enable and impede the use and implementation of research, produced in partnership through the Centre.

This research will:

  • deliver a better understanding of the receptivity to and use of research by your force and make recommendations to improve the promotion and use of research into policing practice and decision making
  • provide the basis to design, select and test the effectiveness of appropriate methods and interventions to more effectively embed the research evidence generated through the Centre into policing practice.

The survey has recently been extended to all of our police force members.  Please complete the survey below.
