Festival of Impact

Dates
Wednesday, September 28, 2022 - 10:00 to Thursday, September 29, 2022 - 14:00
Location
OU Campus

The Centre for Policing Research and Learning’s (CPRL) Festival of Impact will take place at the Open University’s campus in Walton Hall, Milton Keynes on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 September 2022 with opportunity for an overnight stay and dinner on the Wednesday evening.

The Festival of Impact will showcase and celebrate the strength of the academic-police partnership, both in terms of its outputs and outcomes for policing and academia and also the lessons learned from such a collaboration. Participating in this exciting event is an opportunity to hear about and discuss the value of the synergies between research, learning, education and knowledge into practice and talk to many of the experts involved.

The programme will also enable you to:

  • Share insight, experiences, learning and good practice about collaboration in police-academic partnership working
  • Inspire researchers to think more closely about impact of research on practice
  • Discover how to build a strong foundation of evidence and new knowledge through partnership like that with CPRL
  • Demonstrate how rigour and relevance go hand in hand where projects are well-designed in collaboration
  • Connect with the wide network of CPRL partners and academics
  • Learn about the diverse nature of research impact
  • Take ideas of good and promising practices back into police forces around the UK
  • Influence policy and practice in policing for the public good
  • Strengthen the evidence base to support everyday aspects of operational and organizational policing.

This will be achieved through a mix of speakers, workshop sessions, interactive exercises and demonstrations. You might, for example, be interested in hearing about the ongoing research and early impacts from the Centre’s research around professionalisation. Are you intrigued about the experiences of some of our past Senior Practitioner Fellows or wish to hear about the realities of doing a PhD? Would you like to discuss how to create CPD products, based on some of our showcase learning materials already being used in forces? The event will also provide the opportunity to network with police and academic colleagues from across the partnership with an event dinner.

Please watch the below short videos from Dr Nicky Miller, Senior Lecturer and Director of Knowledge into Practice, Phil Davies our Vice Chair from Greater Manchester Police and Dr Nick Caveney our Chair from Hertfordshire Constabulary about why you should attend!
