The work of The Open University’s Centres for Scholarship and Innovation, including FASSTEST, focuses on the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), i.e.
‘the systematic study of teaching and learning, using established or validated criteria of scholarship, to understand how teaching (beliefs, behaviours, attitudes, and values) can maximize learning, and/or develop a more accurate understanding of learning, resulting in products that are publicly shared for critique and use by an appropriate community’ (Potter and Kustra, 2011, p. 2).
FASSTEST, the FASS Centre for Scholarship and Innovation, supports the critical, scholarly evaluation of approaches to open and distance teaching and learning in the Arts and Social Sciences with the aim of providing an evidence base for policies and good practice.
