Moog is a US defence company that inherited its Rosetta contribution from its takeover of UK company Polyflex Space Ltd.
Polyflex Space Ltd had two major contributions to the mission. Firstly, they provided the helium storage tanks for the Ptolemy instrument, which were designed to prevent leakage for up to 11 years and to allow the helium to remain at 99.99999% purity by volume. These were desgined with memory metal to initiate the release mechanism.
Polyflex’s second contribution was to supply the valves for the Rosetta propulsion system, an off-the-shelf product rather than one requiring a unique design.
