The UK Space Agency (formerly the British National Space Centre) falls under the remit of the government Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (formerly the Department of Trade and Industry) which contributed €16 million (£13 million) to the Rosetta mission in addition to that provided by PPARC.
The UKSA, as of 2011, has overall responsibility for all of the UK’s space-related activities, taking over all missions and administration of the UK’s involvement within ESA. The UKSA also oversees the development of commercial space-related industries in the UK, a sector that had a total turnover of £9.1 billion in 2010/2011.
