Dr Leonor Barroca and Dr Helen Donelan explain more about the Computing and IT degree
The BSc Computing and IT degree will help you to become a confident user and manager of information technologies; administer and manage network or database systems; and develop software solutions. This degree will give you a sound grasp of the principles of hardware-based, software-based, or systems-based technologies, and the ability to apply your knowledge and skills in a broad range of industries and organisations.
You can study this degree as a broad-based option, or specialise to concentrate on communications and networking, communications and software, or software.
The BSc Data Science will equip you with the key skills to explore and analyse complex data sets, and to solve practical problems using applied mathematics, statistics and computing. You’ll gain a good grounding in mathematical and statistical methods, which provide a foundation for data analysis; together with the essential computing skills needed to use them to solve practical problems, including elements of machine learning and artificial intelligence. You’ll also gain experience of using statistical software packages.
A foundation degree in Computing and IT practice followed by a top-up degree in Computing and IT Practice. The foundation degree is about acquiring skills and learning how to deploy them at work. The top-up degree will add skills and knowledge required to convert the foundation degree into a full BSc. You’ll choose from a variety of modules to suit your career goals, and complete your studies with a project on a topic based on one of your chosen modules.
You can also incorporate Computing modules into an Combined STEM degree or an Open degree.
