Medru

Medru was set up to give training to staff working in north-east Wales, and support local businesses in their recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, as well as respond to changes in technology. The courses have been designed to give the workforce transferable and agile skills, which can help economic growth in the area.

Background

In the first phase of the programme, we’ll work to upskill and reskill employees in a group of local business. The training will be ‘bite sized’ and flexible, allowing people to study when and where they want – and it won’t be based on staff’s previous academic qualifications. It will be developed in partnership with businesses, based on their aims.

This first phase will be used to test the concept and inform the next stages of the programme. The ambition is for Medru to offer science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) training across the whole of the north-east of Wales, supporting businesses and people in their aspirations, and creating a pipeline of talent for the future.

Who is behind Medru?

Medru is a partnership between Bangor University, Coleg Cambria and The Open University in Wales.

How?

We want Medru to support world class industry and manufacturing in north-east Wales. During the first phase, we’ll explore the potential for the programme and see how this can be developed into a delivery model for STEM skills in the area. Through our partnerships with local businesses, we’ll shape future phases of the programme.

Timescales

The second phase of Medru completed January 2024, and we’re currently planning phase three.
