Reference management tools - an introduction

How do I attend?

Go to Reference management tools - an introduction and select 'Join Room' located at the bottom of the page. The room remains closed until the trainer has entered - this will usually be 15 minutes before the start time.

Benefits

This 45 minute session will introduce you to reference management tools and why you would use them. We will explain the basic functions of the tools and how they work with library databases, and with word processors. Please note that this session is not designed to train attendees on how to use a specific tool – but rather to make you aware of when and why you would use a tool, what tools are out there, and some generic functions shared by tools which you can use.

Who's it for?

Particularly suitable for level 3 and postgraduate students who want to use reference management tools to manage their references for assignments and projects.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • choose a reference management method that suits your individual research needs
  • recognise how reference management tools work
  • identify the benefits and limitations of reference management tools
  • find additional sources of support for reference management tools
