We were delighted to have Dr Felix Kwihangana as our keynote speaker at the 2024 Festival of Scholarship.  Dr Felix Kwihangana is a Doctor of Philosophy, Preservice language teachers’ digital teacher identity development in an under-resourced context at the University of Manchester (UOM).

Felix’s teaching and research focuses on the use of digital technologies in teaching, learning and teacher education, especially in under-resourced contexts. Felix also has an interest in how educational policies and their implementation shape technology-mediated educational provisions in their contexts. Felix is currently pursuing a growing interest in how pervasive AI in education may affect efforts to address existing digital inequity and inequality in different educational settings.

Before joining the University of Manchester, Felix was a lecturer in English and Communication skills.  As well as an in-service and pre-service teacher educator and teacher-trainer in Rwanda.  Felix has also previously served as a Senior Tutor in Digital Education and a Programme Director for the MA DTCE-Distance Learning. And was also a Commonwealth scholar at the University of Manchester between 2017-2020.

Felix’s main research interests are.

• Processes and challenges in digital education provision in under-resourced or challenging contexts
• Impact of novel digital technologies (e.g., generative AI) in creating or reducing digital inequalities in under-resourced educational contexts;
• Shaping influences of in-context digital education policies and practices on teacher identity, classroom practices and professional development.
• Using digital technologies to support language learning and teaching.

During the Festival of Scholarship Felix discussed Generative AI and Educational Practice.

There were also presentations from Praxis Project Leads from 2022/2023 including: Ben Langdown, Renu Bhandari, Liz King, Annette Duensing, Mel Green, Joan Simons, Ola Fadoju, Karina Von Lindeiner-Strasky, Ximena Arias-Manzano & Charlotte Mason, Danielle Pullen & Valentina Lorenzon, Catharine Bleasdale & Matthew Jones, Catharine Carden & Stuart Wroe as well as introductions to the Praxis Hubs from Tim Seal, Mel Green and Olivia Kelly all hosted by our Praxis Director Carol Azumah Dennis.  A wonderful celebration of Praxis Scholarship in action.
