TEachers Learning to Teach languages (TELT) aims to increase and improve language provision in primary schools. Teachers simultaneously learn a new language and the skills to teach that language in the classroom. The programme is General Teaching Council for Scotland approved, and can count towards postgraduate qualifications.
TELT was developed in collaboration between the OU and SCILT, Scotland’s National Centre for Languages. It is inspired by and contributes to delivery of the Scottish Government’s 1+2 language policy.
TELT is open to all primary teachers, and secondary teachers with a secondment in primary, across the UK. We welcome both employer-sponsored and independently-funded students.
TELT study is available in four languages: French, German, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese. For each, you have the choice between beginners and post-beginners level.
A book and a website with extra resources, activities and audio recordings are included. And as a language student, you can communicate with peers via our online forum.
