South Asian Heritage Month

Map of South Asia with a hand placing push pins

South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM) takes place from 18 July to 17 August throughout the UK, and celebrates the histories and culture from the countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, The Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

To mark this, we have gathered resources created by authors from South Asia and people of South Asian heritage, that explore their rich and varied experiences. This list has been compiled in collaboration with the OU BME network.

In addition to the resources listed below, we can also reccommend authors whose work we hope to include in our library collection soon:

  • Khaled Hosseini
  • Kavita Puri
  • Kunzang Choden
  • Rabindranath Tagore
  • RK Narayan
  • Saadat Hasan Manto
  • Ismat Chugtai
  • Anita Desia
  • Mohammed Hanif
  • Saima Mir
  • Tahmina Anam
  • Samant Subramanian
  • Shereen Malherbe

If you would like to share your thoughts and ideas, please give us your suggestions or feedback.

You can find out more about South Asian Heritage Month through the SAHM website.
