Library staff have created a list of resources which discuss the experiences of autistic people and their families. Autism is a spectrum and is different for everyone; some people may find it hard to communicate and interact with others and some people may find it takes longer to understand and process information. It's estimated that there are around 700,000 autistic people in the UK and one in 100 children have an autism diagnosis, however, autism can still be misunderstood and stigmatised.
This list of resources covers autism in the context of technology, employment, education, language and literature, family life, independence, and health. With the goal of creating a society that works for autistic people, please join the OU in celebrating and raising awareness of autism so that we can promote understanding in the community.
