Notes for Scorers

Bowler – Overs

Only runs from legitimate balls and dot balls (no runs from the bat) should be recorded in the over section.

Wides, no balls, byes and leg byes should go in their own sections.

Batsman – Runs

Only runs scored off the bat should go in here. Not byes, leg byes etc. which should go in their own sections.

Runs scored from a wide.

If a ball is called wide and no runs are made:

One run is entered into the wides column next to the bowler and one run in the wides column beneath the batsmen. Nothing is entered in the Over section next to the bowler or in the Runs section next to the batsman.

If the ball is called wide and runs are made:

The number of runs plus one for the wide is entered in the wides column next to the bowlers and also the wides section below the batsmen. e.g. if the ball is wide and the batsmen make one run then 2 will be entered into the wides columns. Nothing is entered in the over section next to the bowler or in the runs section next to the batsman.

Runs scored from a no ball

If a no ball is called and no runs are made:

One run is entered into the no ball column next to the bowler and the no balls section beneath the batsmen. Nothing is entered in the Over section next to the bowler or in the Runs section next to the batsman.

If a no ball is called and the batsman hits the ball and runs are made:

The number of runs made plus one for the no ball are entered in the no balls section next to the bowler, one run will be entered in the no ball section beneath the batsmen and the number of runs made will be credited to the batsman in the runs section.

e.g. if the batsman hits the ball and two runs are made a total of 3 runs will be entered in the no balls column next to the bowler, one run in the no balls section beneath the batsman and two runs in the runs section alongside the batsman.

If a no ball is called, the batsman does not hit the ball but they run byes or leg byes.

One run is entered in the no ball column next to the bowler and the no ball section below the batsmen. The number of byes or leg byes run is entered in the byes or leg byes column next to the bowler and the byes or leg byes section beneath the batsmen. Nothing is entered in the Over section next to the bowler or in the Runs section next to the batsman.

e.g. if the batsman hits the ball and two leg byes are made, one run will be entered in the no balls column next to the bowler, one run in the no balls section beneath the batsman and two runs in the leg byes sections beside the bowler and beneath the batsman.

Please double check your scoresheet after each innings and ask someone else to check it too. Every year teams lose games because scoresheets are completed incorrectly.
