Cardiovascular research cluster

The Cardiovascular Cluster at The Open University focusses on investigating cardiovascular diseases from the single cell all the way to the patient. Utilising various methodologies, including calcium imaging, cell culture and molecular biology we study mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases, including arrhythmias and heart failure, as well as investigating how certain risk factors, such as obesity can alter cardiovascular outcomes. Furthermore, we are carrying out research in the clinical setting and working on tools that will better monitor cardiovascular disease which can then be used to mitigate risk. Ultimately our research will lead to improved therapeutics and monitoring- and therefore outcomes- of cardiovascular disease.
