Mathematics teachers learn throughout their pre-service education and their career experiences. Our team is interested in researching strategies for teacher learning that develop pedagogic knowledge alongside mathematical knowledge, with explicit attention to how teachers communicate and how they develop student reasoning.
Our team has:
- designed courses preparing early career teachers to teach A-level mathematics
- researched teachers’ preparation for teaching A-level and Core Maths
- researched into the effectiveness of peer support in Initial Teacher Education
- interviewed primary school teachers who have been using the new mathematics textbooks to explore their beliefs about how well the texts promote children's mastery in mathematics.
