The Cycle to Work initiative gives you the opportunity to sacrifice part of your salary in return for a bicycle and/or selected safety equipment, which should be used primarily for part or all journeys to/from work and/or between work locations. The purpose of the scheme is to encourage more employees to cycle to and from work, or between work places, thereby contributing to lowering carbon emissions, reducing traffic congestion and improving health and fitness levels.

You can either get a pedal bike and accessories up to the value of €1,500 or an e-bike and accessories up to the value of €1,500. Under the scheme you don’t pay Income Tax, PRSI or Universal Social Charge on the price of the bicycle and/or safety equipment so you can save up to 52% on the retail price (depending on your marginal tax rate). You can work out your tax calculation and budget here - https://www.cyclescheme.ie/calculator
IMPORTANT: You are only eligible to apply for the Cycle to Work scheme once every 4 years. You can find out what isn't allowed through the scheme by visiting this Cyclescheme.ie website
