Cycle Maintenance Station

Yellow Bike Maintenance StationCycle Maintenance Station

At Walton Hall campus there are 2 Cycle Maintenance Station available one at the bus stops on St Michaels Drive (white unit) & the Sports Pavilion Motorcycle Faciliy (yellow unit). The stations are not locked so you can access the tools when needed.

They have various tethered tools including tyre levers, screwdrivers, allen keys, spanners and a pump. The stations will enable you to tune up your bike or help repair a puncture (you will have to have your own puncture kit or spare inner-tube).

Promotions

The Open University actively encourages cycling. Estates promote a number of events during the year including:

  • Bike Week
  • Bike to Work Day
  • Maintenance Day
  • Cyclescheme

Estates liaise with the cycle officer at Milton Keynes Council, local cycle dealers and the local Police for bike security marking.

There are also associations within the University that promote cycling like the OU Bicycle Users Group mailing list, and the OU Cycling Club that is affiliated to the OU Club.

Cycling and cycle commuting are recognised as great fun and a good way to keep fit and healthy. In Milton Keynes there are miles of Redways that allow safe segregated routes to and from the University. Please visit Cycling in Milton Keynes to find out more on MK Council Redways.

Cycle to Work Guarantee

The OU has signed up to 'The Cycle to Work Guarantee’ . The scheme is being promoted to offer employees a healthy and green option to commute to and from work.
We welcome the Cycle to Work Guarantee initiative and have already shown commitment to many of its incentives in order to encourage cycling.

OU Cycling Club (OUCC)

OUCC was set up in 2015 by a group of keen cyclists who met regularly for bike rides from the OU campus. Our rides still go ahead and are organised over on the OUCC Strava page

There are a number of benefits to joining OUCC; as well as organising rides, talks and trips we hold a supply of tools and spare inner tubes on Walton Hall campus for members to use, free of charge. We have an exclusive OU branded club kit. We are affiliated to British Cycling and CTT (Time Trials) and have free club passes available for riding in Aspley and Rushmere woods. Best of all, membership is only £6 per year.
To join the club please visit our British Cycling Club Profile
